As a result of our successful campaign, Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) was established through an act in February 2012; subsequent signing of DRA bill by President, Mr. Asif Ali Zardari on 12th November 2012 made it a part of constitution of the country.
Establishment of DRAP
ISSUE
After the 18th amendment in the constitution of Pakistan, drug regulation was being dealt at provincial levels causing different issues of trade marks, drug pricing, fake medicines etc and moreover after dissolving of Health Ministry, these issues were increasing at alarming level.
Pharma Bureau, representative body of all pharmaceutical multinationals demanded a regulatory framework to deal such issues at federal level.
ROLE OF THE PASSAGE
A well thought campaign was initiated a year before based on an apt PR strategy to get a single, centralized Drug Regulation Authority (DRA) established in Pakistan.
We established the need of a centralized DRA through news stories, articles, and even official statements from Pharma Bureau highlighting the issues which were arising in health sector and proactively reduced the chances for drug regulation at provincial level.
